The Custom Carving Section is dedicated to showcase some of Wohners Inc. talents. These are ideas of individuals and customers that came to us to see if we could recreate some of these works utilizing our quality craftsmanship. As you can see from some of our diverse clients, that no job is too big for us. We treat every job with the utmost respect, and the results show. Each assignment is produced in a timely fashion, and the outcome is unforgettable. Although Custom Carving can be expensive, we have been known to take on a project for as low as $1,000.

Creating a Carving for the State Seal of Pennsylvania
Based on a 1778 design by Caleb Lownes of Philadelphia, the State Seal features a shield crested by an American Bald Eagle, flanked by horses and adorned with symbols of Pennsylvania's strengths - a ship carrying state commerce to all parts of the world; a clay-red plough, signifying our rich natural resources; and three golden sheaves of wheat, suggesting fertile fields and Pennsylvania's wealth of human thought and action. An olive branch and cornstalk cross limbs beneath - a message of peace and prosperity.

With that brief history being said, We were given the opportunity to carve the State Seal for the Superior Court of Pennsylvania. It will be carved in wood, By Wohners, Inc., and it has an overall dimension of 36" Length X 24" Height X 2" - 4" Thick.

The original image was taken off of
a brass serving dish given to us by
the State of Pennsylvania.
You can see how small it was.
Our detailed designers were able to recreate a drawing from that plate.
Our master craftsmen have produced a finalized wood carving to another satisfied customer.

Recreating French Art of the 18th Century
Wall Paneling of carved wood reached its full development in the XVIIIth century. Sculptors, painters and lacquerers all combined to transform its originally utilitarian character into a really rich pictorial background for furniture. An astonishing variety of wood paneling is known.

To further showcase our talents, we present this piece of work. A customer wanted this wall panel that they have seen in a book, recreated. The paneling became an intricate part of their music room. The rest is 'FRENCH' history.
Picture of antique paneling was provided by a customer out of a magazine, and requested it be carved in wood.
It was then recreated into a full scale drawing by one of our master draftsman, and carved
The final piece looks just as good as the original.

Creating an Original Wood Carving
Below was an Architectural original. The first image is a picture of the drawing, with a detailed carving, and the second is an image of the Center placed on a Window Balance.
This is a drawing of an ornament that a customer wanted.
This is the piece after it has been created, and how it looks when it is all placed all together.

Turning a Plaster Molding into a Wood Carving
Another one of our master projects was the one shown below. Pieces of the plaster figure was missing. The arm as well as pieces of the plant that he is holding were broken off, and we were able to recreate it so that it looks like it was always there. We have the capabilities to reproduce just about anything into wood, from any medium. This particular carving is made out of Walnut.

This is the plaster figure that was brought in. Pieces of the figure was missing.

This is the final wood carving of the figure. A little more detailed, and a lot better looking.
Here are the two figures side by side so that the detail and the similarities may be shown.

Old Iowa State Capital Interior Column Reconstruction
This was a project given to us by the State University of Iowa to reconstruct their Interior Columns on the Old State Capital Building that were damaged. We were sent the old peices of the columns, and were asked to recreate them so they can be placed into the
